Vocaloid

The Japanese have taken the Gorrilaz concept to another level whereby not even the voice is real. Popstars such as Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Megurine Luka all use the Vocaloid 2 software from Yamaha. A voice is sampled at controlled pitch and tone. These different samples all contain a single Japanese phonic which when strung together create full words and eventually phrases. Of course it's all mainly cheesy Jpop but they are hugely popular with 1000's of songs written by different artists.
